Hyperhidrosis is a common condition causing excessive sweating.

Botulinum toxin type A (commonly known as Botox®) is licensed for the treatment of hyperhidrosis of the armpit (axillae).

Small doses are injected into the skin to prevent the glands from producing sweat. The treatment is not a cure and therefore needs to be repeated every 3-6 months for continued relief.

Often there is no obvious cause for hyperhidrosis but we advise that medical advice is sought before undergoing this treatment to eliminate the possibility of any underlying medical condition.
